Starwest Botanicals Recalls Cardamom Pods – Salmonella

Herb supplier Starwest Botanicals has announced that the company is recalling its Organic Cardamom Pods Green (Whole) product due to possible bacterial contamination.

The spice pods, which are actually labeled Cardamom Pods Green Organic, are sold in bulk bags and in 1-pound Mylar bags, the company said in its press release about the recall. They were sold directly to customers through the Starwest Botanicals website and at the company’s pick-up facility.

The recalled cardamom was available as recently as March 02, 2018.

The bacteria prompting this recall is Salmonella. Starwest Botanicals has not said how the potential contamination was discovered or if any actual bacteria was even found. In the press release, the company did stress that it has received no reports of any customer being sickened.

Only 2 lot numbers are affected. The codes to look for are:

  • UPC 7-6796302528-9 with item# 209735-01 and lot number 75593-01
  • UPC 7-6796302527-2 with item# 209735-00 and lot number 90186-00
