The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has made public its formal warning letter to Christopher Marion and his company, Mitra Distributing, for selling kratom products the agency says are actually “unapproved new drugs”.
Specifically, the agency mentioned these products, distributed through Marion’s website, KratomWholesale.us:
- Bali Green Kratom Powder
- Bali Red Kratom Powder
- Borneo Green Kratom Powder
- Borneo Red Vein Kratom
- Horned Kratom Powder
- Vietnam Kratom Powder
- Malaysian White Vein Kratom Powder
- Thai White Vein Kratom Powder
- Thai Red Vein Kratom Powder
- Maeng Da Kratom Powder
The problem, says FDA, is that the powders are being hawked as treatments for opioid withdrawal and addiction–among other things. And those are claims the FDA, which regulates the marketing of “natural” supplements, does not yet allow any kratom distributor to make.
The warning letter to KratomWholesale.us was dated last week and the company was given the standard 15 working days to respond. As of this morning, the FDA-cited claims I looked up appeared to have been already removed.
